ABOUT ME

Hello And Welcome!
I am Miss Gunzenhauser (aka Miss G or Miss Gunz) and I'm from Milford, Connecticut - a small city in the southern part of the state along the coast. Growing up, school was always fun for me! It was filled with inspiring teachers who knew how to make class fun and hands-on. My love of learning has grown and I want to share that with students of my own and encourage their love of learning to grow as well.
My Education:
I graduated from The Pennsylvania State University in May 2015
with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Mathematics
Education and a Minor in Mathematics. I learned so many
incredible things in my time spent there that will be reflected in
my own classroom!

My Hobbies:
Starting from a young age, I played softball for 10 years and after
that when I stopped playing, I was the softball team manager
(Foran High School - 2011 Class L State Champions!). In my
student teaching experience, I was an assistant coach of the
school's Varsity Fall Slow Pitch softball team. I love the game and
I love getting the opportunity to pick up games with my friends. I
am an avid New York Yankees fan and I am a big fan of baseball as a whole. I love music and I thoroughly enjoy singing (even if others don't necessarily enjoy listening). I like to cook and bake as often as possible and I like watching movies. In my free time, I like to explore my creativity through writing and crafting. My creative efforts will shine through in my classroom, as I am constantly thinking of new and exciting things to try!
Why I Became A Teacher:
If you ask a kid what they want to be when they grow up, you will
hear a variety of profound professions: doctor, astronaut, firefighter,
singer, actor, etc. These tend to change as interests change and
children grow. My answer never changed. The day I graduated with a
teaching degree, I made the six-year-old version of myself very proud.
I always knew that I wanted to teach and inspire students. I want to
be a teacher to make the same impact on students that was made
on me by my own teachers. I don't only want to teach my students
the required material, but I also want my students to develop a love and a respect for their learning. I want them to develop a natural curiosity and I want them to want to be challenged. I want them to question everything and not stop until they find an answer. Most importantly, I want to encourage my students to live up to their fullest potential and to become the people they aspire to be in their lives.

My Philosophy

My teaching philosophy is a representation of what I believe as an educator. It elaborates on my values in teaching as well as what and who I represent in the classroom. It includes the expectations that I hold for myself, as the teacher, as well as the expectations that I have for the students in my classroom. You can read my Teaching Philosophy here!
My Values

I value an interactive and dynamic classroom in which productive and collaborative relationships are created between the teacher, students, parents, and the community. I value a classroom environment where the teaching style varies from lecture style to hands-on activities and where students can learn individually, in pairs, or in small groups. Overall, I value students and their education as well as my own professional development as an educator.
